Amazon Slashes Whole Foods Prices, Features Alexa
Whole Foods' prices were cut Monday, August 28, following their acquisition by Amazon (AMZN) - Get Report . Whole Foods shareholders approved the merger on August 23 but Monday was the day the acquisition became official. Amazon immediately announced its intention to lower prices. "We're determined to make healthy and organic food affordable for everyone," Jeff Wilke, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Consumer, said in a statement.
TheStreet stopped by to check out what's new. Stores now feature signage showing the price cuts and highlighting Amazon's logo. They are also promoting the Amazon Alexa. Organic products, such as heirloom tomatoes, unsalted butter and bananas, saw price cuts. Signs also indicate that there will be more price cuts to come.
