Verizon's Droid Incredible Set to Launch
NEW YORK (
) --
Verizon
(VZ) - Get Report
promises an Incredible follow up to the
Motorola
(MOT)
-- the HTC Droid Incredible.
According to what looked like an inadvertent preview page on the Verizon site (it has since been moved), the company will start taking pre-orders this month for what it calls the Droid Incredible by HTC.

Verizon calls the Incredible the "next chapter" in what has been a modest success with Droid phones, which are powered by
Google's

Android software.
The Incredible has attracted the attention of techies who are excited about the specifications and features that stack up quite well on paper. The Incredible is expected to have
Qualcomm's

Snapdragon one-gigahertz processor, 8 gigabytes of data storage and an 8-megapixel camera.
If these characteristics sound familiar, there's a reason. The Incredible appears to be a twin of Google's own
phone made by HTC. Coincidentally, all has been quiet on the Nexus One front since Google first announced it would be selling a
version of the phone last month.
The move comes as
Apple
(AAPL) - Get Report
gears up to announce its fourth version of the iconic iPhone at AT&T and potentially kick-start a new round of phone shopping by consumers looking to upgrade to a touch-screen phone. The rivalries have been building in smartphones as Google's Androids have been gaining popularity by offering a more open, user-defined mobile device.

Verizon has teamed with Google in the past year to develop phones that can help the two companies counter the strong iPhone partnership between Apple and AT&T.
Notably, the next verison of the iPhone will have a 5-megapixel camera, and it won't be until next year that the
iPhone gets an 8-megapixel camera
from
Sony

, as
TheStreet
exclusively reported Tuesday.
Apple investors showed no concern over the latest mobile phone treat from Google. Apple shares hit another all-time high Wednesday and were trading up $3.12, or 1%, to $245.55 in afternoon trading.
