NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Even though smartwatches haven't yet hit the mainstream, more than 70% of those surveyed in a recent poll said they would buy the Apple (AAPL) - Get Report Watch.

In a recent poll conducted by TheStreet, 71% of respondents said they would buy an Apple Watch, which the iPhone maker is widely expected to show off again Monday at a media event in San Francisco. Apple first took the wraps off the Watch in September 2014, when it unveiled it alongside the iPhone 6 and its mobile payments system, Apple Pay.

Of the 1,382 people who took the poll, just 29% said they wouldn't buy an Apple Watch. Their reasons included wanting to wait until the next generation Watch is released, a sensitivity to price (the Apple Watch starts at $349) and wanting to wait until the Watch is reviewed.

Forty-four percent of those surveyed said they would buy the Apple Watch even though pricing was unknown at the time of the survey.

The Apple Watch will have multiple bands, including two sports bands, as well as a leather band, a link bracelet, one made of stainless steel mesh and several others. In total, there are 18 different models of the Apple Watch.

Almost as equally as popular was the Apple Watch Sport. Forty-three percent of respondents said they would buy the Apple Watch Sport, a watch that is geared toward fitness enthusiasts. It has five different color bands (white, green, blue, pink and black) and is widely expected to be the entry-level edition, priced at $349. There are 10 different models of the Apple Watch Sport.

Despite expectations that the Apple Watch Edition will cost thousands (and perhaps tens of thousands) of dollars, 12% of those who took the survey said they would buy the Apple Watch Edition. The Watch Edition has a watch case made from 18-karat gold with a display that is partially made from polished sapphire crystal. The Apple Watch Edition will have several different styles of bands, including a black sport band, as well as several modern-looking bands.

Apple is expected to start shipping the devices next month, and recent media reports suggest that Apple has ordered between 5 and 6 million units for its initial production. About half of that would go toward the entry level watch, widely expected to be the Apple Watch Sport, with the remaining production geared toward the Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Edition.
