plans to soon introduce a new range of mobile phones with social-networking capabilities aimed at young consumers, part of the company's plan to revive its struggling mobile-phone strategy, the
Wall Street Journal
reports.
One of the new devices, categorized under the code-name "Pink," will be seen on the shelves later this month in the U.S. The new mobile launch is with the support of Verizon Wireless, the venture owned by
Verizon

Vodafone

, a source told the
Journal
.
Microsoft designed the software, online services and hardware for the Pink mobile phones, while
Sharp
of Japan manufactured the device.
Microsoft on Monday invited the media to an event April 12 in San Francisco with the slogan, "It's time to share." Though the company declined to disclose the event's purpose, people familiar with the matter told the
Journal
it would be to introduce the new phones.
