AT&T Will Collect Android Market Payments

In a spot where EBay's PayPal was expected to fit, AT&T will put Android purchases on monthly phone bill.

to resolve their standoff, Ma Bell says it will now add Android Market purchases to its customers' monthly phone bill.

The move adds another payment option to the Android Apps store in addition to credit card purchases or transaction done through Google Checkout. Both systems required a few steps of setup from consumers and were viewed by buyers and sellers as far more annoying than

Apple's

iTunes or

Amazon's

(AMZN) - Get Report

payment systems.

The AT&T billing feature will be added to the payment options offered by Android Market, according to the

Android Developers blog

Still missing from the Android Market place is the top Internet payment system PayPal. Google's Android team and PayPal were expected to forge a deal this fall that would have gotten PayPal's service in Android Market.

Android may have moved on. The mobile software development unit of Google has already added T-Mobile along with AT&T to its list of carriers that will provide billing, and Android says it is looking to add more telcos, presumably
