CNN Poll Shows Widespread Distrust by Americans of Trump White House
A new poll by CNN, released Monday, puts Donald Trump's approval rating at its lowest for CNN polling and also shows more than half of Americans saying they disapprove of his handling of the presidency.
Three-quarters of Americans said they can't trust most of what they hear from the White House, CNN reported Monday evening.
According to the CNN report on the poll conducted by SSRS, 38% of those surveyed said they approve of Trump's handling of the presidency while 56% saying they disapprove. CNN noted that Bill Clinton was the only other president whose approval rating was below 50% six months into his term; Clinton's approval rating was 44% at this point in 1993.
CNN also said 47% of those surveyed in the new poll said they strongly disapprove of Trump's handling of the job and 24% said they feel strongly positive about Trump's performance.
When it comes to issues, CNN said the poll shows Trump with a 48%-approve-to-47%-disapprove rating on national security. Some 47% disapprove of his handling of the economy, while 45% approve. On healthcare policy, 62% disapprove; on foreign affairs, 61% disapprove; and on immigration, 55% disapprove. Almost half those surveyed (48%) disapprove of his handling of taxes.
While 7 out of 10 people agree with Trump's assessment that Twitter (TWTR) - Get Report allows him to communicate directly with his supporters, CNN reported, most people (52%) said they believe his tweets are not an effective way for him to share his views on important issues, and 72% say they the tweets don't send the right message to world leaders.
CNN said the poll was conducted by SSRS by telephone Aug. 3 through 6 among a random national sample of 1,018 adults. The margin of sampling error for results among the full sample is plus or minus 3.6 percentage points, it is larger for subgroups.
