Flights Canceled Between Europe and U.S. Over Security Concerns

British Airways

has canceled five flights between the U.S. and London, the airline announced, due to concerns about possible al Qaeda terror threats.
Air France
canceled two of its flights from Paris to Washington for Sunday and Monday.
Continental Airlines

canceled Flight 17 from Glasgow, Scotland, to Los Angeles with a stop in Newark. The flight was scheduled to fly on Sunday. It was canceled because the airline was "unable to obtain the necessary security clearances from the Department of Homeland Security and their international counterparts," a spokesman for the airline said.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said the nation's terror alert level has not been changed.
Flight 223, bound for Washington Dulles Airport from London's Heathrow Airport, was canceled for Sunday and Monday but was scheduled to fly Saturday. Flight 222 from Dulles to Heathrow also was canceled.
Flight 207 to Miami will not fly on Sunday but did fly Saturday.
"The safety and security of our operations is our absolute priority and will not be compromised," British Airways said. An unidentified spokesman said the flights were canceled on the advice of the British government.
An Air France spokeswoman said Flight 026 was canceled "for reasons of security," ABCNews.com reported.
British Airways Flight 223 was canceled twice in January and delayed on other occasions.
During the week of Christmas, Air France canceled three flights from Paris to Los Angeles.
