NEW YORK (

TheStreet

) -- "Do not track list" is a popular search topic today following news that the Federal Trade Commission has proposed that all Web browsers should offer a "do not track" setting in order to protect consumers' privacy.

Behavioral advertising, or tracking a consumer's activity on the Internet to target advertising, is known to deliver more personalized ads on the Web. However FTC consumer protection director David Vladeck believes that more transparency and consumer control are needed on the Internet.

The FTC's proposal would require that every Internet browser be equipped with the ability to notify Web sites that the surfer does not want their personal information to be collected.

"Unemployment rate" is a trending topic on the Internet today after the U.S. Labor Department reported that the unemployment rate rose to 9.8% in November.

>>Economy Adds Fewer Jobs in November

Nonfarm jobs increased 39,000, well below analyst expectations of 140,000.

The private sector added 50,000 jobs while analysts estimated that growth would range from 158,000 to 170,000.

The chatter on Main Street (a.k.a. Google) is always of interest to investors on Wall Street. Thus, each day, TheStreet compiles the stories that are trending on Google, and highlights the news that could make stocks move.
