Crude Soars to New Record
Oil closes at $80.57 a barrel.
Crude oil prices surged nearly 2% and reached both intraday and closing record highs above $80 a barrel Monday in New York.
The October contract jumped $1.47 to $80.57, going out just below its session best at $80.70. Natural gas advanced 37 cents to $6.65 per million British thermal units.
Reformulated gasoline was up almost a penny to $2.04 a gallon, and heating oil tacked on 2 cents at $2.23 a gallon.

slipped 54 cents to $84.73.

added 28 cents to $90.93.
More broadly, the Amex Oil Index eased 0.3% to 1406.
