Asian Stocks End Mixed; Europe Gains

NEW YORK (
) -- Stocks in Asia ended mixed Tuesday after Wall Street fell following a four-day rally.
The Nikkei 225 stock average in Tokyo declined 0.5% to 10,352.10. The Hang Seng in Hong Kong rose 1.2%.
Investors in Asia had little to go on Tuesday, instead choosing to focus on U.S. growth prospects and China's recent moves to curb bank lending.
In China, stocks ended 0.7% lower.
Shares of
Toyota
(TM) - Get Report
fell about 0.5% after the company disclosed it was the target of a criminal probe over its handling of car recalls.
The
Dow Jones Industrial Average
Monday fell 19 points, or 0.2%, to 10,383 on light volume. Investors could've be holding back as they await congressional testimony on monetary policy Wednesday and Thursday from
Federal Reserve
Chairman Ben Bernanke.
The Fed's increase in the discount rate last week is sure to be a topic about which House and Senate members will quiz Bernanke.
Premarket futures suggested stocks in the U.S. would open higher Tuesday.
European shares were trading higher. Stocks in London rose 0.5%.
