SpeedFam International
(SFAM)
warned that it expects to report third-quarter earnings of 30 cents to 32 cents per share, missing the seven-analyst consensus estimate of 39 cents versus the year-ago 42 cents. The company cited weak chip demand and the effects of the Asian economic crisis, and it said those factors could dampen its fourth-quarter results as well. Current fourth-quarter estimates call for 39 cents versus the year-earlier 46 cents.
Sysco
(SYY) - Get Report
reported second-quarter earnings of 48 cents per share, in line with the 14-analyst view and up from the year-ago 43 cents.
Alrenco
(RNCO)
reported a fourth-quarter loss of 9 cents per share, well under the four-analyst expectation of a 21-cent profit and down from the year-ago gain of 15 cents.
American Waste Services

agreed to sell its solid-waste operations to
USA Waste Services

for undisclosed terms. As part of the transaction, American Waste will spin off its transportation, technical service and golf course subsidiaries into a new public company,
