'Stranger Things' Season 3 Has Best Debut for a Netflix Show Ever
Netflix
Netflix (NFLX) - Get Report officially has a hit on its hands after the company announced that season 3 of its original show "Stranger Things" is the most watched in the company's history.
The company tweeted Monday evening that 40.7 million household accounts had watched the show since its global launch on July 4, the highest four-day total ever for any new film or series on the streaming service.
Not only are customers watching, they are binging, with 18.2 million households having already finished the entire season, Netflix said.
Netflix has begun to release more viewership data recently after keeping them a tightly held secret in the past. Earlier this year, Netflix said that 45 million accounts watched the Sandra Bullock film "Bird Box" and 30 million accounts watched the Adam Sandler film "Murder Mystery."
Shares of Netflix, which faces competition from a slew of new streaming services from major media and technology companies including Disney (DIS) - Get Report and Apple (AAPL) - Get Report later this year, were up 0.7% to 378.91 in pre-market trading on Tuesday. The stock is up 40% year to date.
