Verizon Communications Inc.'s (VZ) - Get Report rewards program Verizon Up will offer customers credits that can be used for concerts, movie premieres, and phone upgrades, and all they ask in return is for access to your web browsing history and app usage.

The program acts as a carrot to the stick of Verizon Selects, which is targeted advertising. Verizon is attempting to build out Verizon Selects, its digital advertising business designed to compete with Facebook Inc. (FB) - Get Report and Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) - Get Report , the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

Verizon's stock has struggled this year, falling more than 10% since January as falling subscriber growth due to increased competition takes its toll on the wireless carrier.

Verizon shares were down 1.04% to $47.42 premarket Tuesday.
