TOKYO (

Toyota
(TM) - Get Report
, the world's top automaker, will recall worldwide about 437,000 hybrid cars, including the popular Prius, to fix braking problems.
"We have decided to recall as we regard safety for our customers as our foremost priority," Toyota President Akio Toyoda said Tuesday at a press conference.
There have been about 200 complaints in Japan and the U.S. about a delay when the brakes in the Prius were pressed in some conditions, according to the
Associated Press
.
Earlier Tuesday it was reported that Toyota had filed to recall more 223,000 hybrid cars, including the Prius, in Japan, because of problems with the vehicle's brakes.
Toyota's recall affects cars that went on sales in 2009, the
AP
reports.
Besides the Prius, Toyota is recalling two other hybrid models -- the Lexus HS250h sedan, sold in the U.S. and Japan, and the Sai, which is sold only in Japan. These models use a braking system like the Prius.
The recall of the Prius is separate from the millions of recalls Toyota has made because of a floor mat problem and also a separate sticking gas pedal problem.
Toyota shares rose more than 3% in Japan.
