Broadband Internet, 'oil spill lawsuit,' 'tax deductible donation' and smartphones are the trending topics on Google and Yahoo.

) -- "Broadband Internet" is a trending search topic today after

Google

announced that it will delay its plans to install fiber optic Internet access.

Earlier this year, the search engine giant revealed that it was working on a broadband network that it says will be more than 100 times faster than what anyone in the U.S. has today.

Google originally expected to name its selected communities for the test network by the end of 2010, but is pushing back its decision until early 2011.

"Oil spill lawsuit" is a heavily searched topic today after the U.S. Justice Department filed a civil lawsuit concerning the

BP

oil spill.

The lawsuit names BP as a defendant, as well as eight other companies, including Macondo well minority owner

Through the lawsuit, the government is seeking damages against all of the companies involved and is asking the court to waive the Oil Pollution Act liability cap of $75 million.

"Tax deductible donation" is a trending search topic today as the IRS rewards taxpayers who donate to charity with tax advantages and deductions.

Taxpayers can deduct donations only if they give them to a qualified tax exempt organization. The IRS Publication 78, a list of the organizations that are eligible to receive tax deductible contributions, can be

searched at the IRS Web site

The IRS does cannot deduct the value of time or services, and while clothing and household items are acceptable, all donations must be in general good used condition or better to be deductible.

"Smartphones" is a heavily searched term today following the news that the U.S. Army wants to issue every soldier an

Android cell phone next year.

"One of the options potentially is to make it a piece of equipment in a soldier's clothing bag," Army Capabilities Integration Center director Lt. Gen. Michael Vane told
