said global comparable sales increased 5% in April and 6.8% for the year to date.
The hamburger seller said Thursday that systemwide sales for McDonald's worldwide restaurants climbed 13.7% last month, or 6.5% in constant currencies.
U.S. comparable sales were up 2% for the month, and in Europe, April same-store sales increased 6.3%, led by France, the U.K., Russia and Germany. The launch of the premium M beef burger in France and Germany and the Monopoly promotion in the U.K. contributed to the growth.
The 7.8% increase in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa was fueled by strong comparable sales growth in Australia, China and most other markets, partly offset by Japan.
Shares of McDonald's were little changed, up 2 cents at $59.40. Competitors
