FDA OKs Pfizer Drug for Women

The treatment is endometriosis, a gynecological condition.

said Tuesday that regulators had approved its treatment for pain associated with endometriosis, a gynecological condition.

Pfizer said the Food and Drug Administration gave its OK for the company's s depo-subQ provera 104, a long-acting injectable contraception.

The medicine is the first new treatment option for endometriosis pain in 15 years. Endometriosi affects one in 10 women of reproductive age and is one of the top three causes of infertility.

Depo-subQ provera 104 was previously approved by the FDA for use as a contraceptive.

Pfizer shares were down 17 cents, or 0.6%, to $26.06 in the premarket.
