Facebook, Twitter Terms of Use Staying the Same After Charlottesville Violence
Facebook (FB) - Get Report and Twitter (TWTR) - Get Report are not changing their terms of use surrounding violent or racist commentary on the social networks despite some industry peers' decision to do so following the Charlottesville protests, Recode reported.
Airbnb and GoDaddy (GDDY) - Get Report have taken public stands against white nationalist groups, with the former dropping accounts of rally attendees and the latter banning the web domain of neo-Nazi site The Daily Stormer.
Facebook said it is "actively removing any posts that glorify the horrendous act committed in Charlottesville." Twitter pointed to its existing terms of use. Both sites previously and currently condemn hate groups.
Facebook said it has removed the "Untie the Right" rally that overtook Charlottesville with alt-right protestors this weekend, but the event had been public on the site for a month before it was removed. Twitter failed to meet the European Union's standard for removing hate speech from the site earlier this year, but claims to be improving its reaction time.
Facebook stock traded slightly up premarket. Twitter shares were up 0.7%.
