At least two people may have been exposed to the chemical nerve agent sarin at a Facebook (FB) - Get Report mailing facility in Menlo Park, California, fire officials said Monday.
The San Mateo County Fire Battalion Chief said that everyone at the facility is safe and the two people that may have possibly been exposed to the substance are being checked.
A Facebook spokesperson confirmed to KCBS Radio that a number of buildings at the company's Menlo Park campus have been evacuated while officials evaluate packages sent to their mailrooms.
Officials have declined to confirm that the suspicious substance was in fact sarin.
The San Francisco FBI office confirmed to TheStreet that it has responded to the incident and is on the scene at the request of the San Mateo hazmat team.
Facebook issued a statement saying in part, "At 11:00 AM PDT this morning, a package delivered to one of our mail rooms was deemed suspicious. We evacuated four buildings and are conducting a thorough investigation in coordination with local authorities. Authorities have not yet identified the substance found. As of now, three of the evacuated buildings have been cleared for repopulation."
