Dow Gets Lift From Emerging Markets

swung to a profit in the fourth quarter as sales rose 15% and volumes increased in emerging markets.

Dow Chemical's earnings of 18 cents a share, excluding items, topped the expectations of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters of 11 cents a share. A year earlier, on the same basis, Dow reported a loss of 63 cents a share.

Dow Chemical said sales rose 15% to $12.5 billion. Analysts expected sales of $11.8 billion.

Dow Chemical said quarterly volume on a pro forma basis increased 33% in emerging geographies from a year earlier. Volumes fell 1% in North America.
