This futuristic-looking drive, with its aluminum chassis and meshed metal front is downright good looking, and one that you won't mind housing on your desk.
More and more mobile executives are required to store and/or manage large videofiles and this compact yet quite capable drive is great for today's workload.
It comes with a black leather carrying case for extra style on the go.
Most other reviewers might not notice this, but I really like the length of the USB/firewire cords. They are just the right length so that you don't have to bind the extra length in order to get them out of the way. They also happen to match the cords that come along with a MAC. There is a fan mounted on the bottom, providing cooling to the drive and even
that's
cool looking.
The speed at which this drive transfers is impressive and quick enough for most pressed-for-time mobile executives, at a 100+ MB/second transfer rate.
Standard on most high-end drives is the Firewire connection allowing several FireWiredevices to be connected simultaneously.
The G-RAID mini drive we tried had a 200GB capacity with a 7200 drive speed (recommended especially when dealing with video files). An upgraded product family, the G-RAID mini 2 will out ship in June. The G-RAID mini 2 family will have plenty of room to store large files with up to 1TB (terabyte) capacity and a faster eSATA port. SATA technology is defined as "Serial Advanced Technology Attachment -- a newer hard disk connection technology that's more robust, flexible, and faster than previous versions."
Another way to store more is the SimpleTech Duo Pro. The big news here is that not only are you able to store data, video, entire hard drives, but you'll also get 2GB online to store files for free. For you real data-hungry divas, there is also the option, for about $5 a month, to upgrade to store more online. That way if anythinghappens to your hard drive you'll have all your data and files in two separate locations, safe and secure.
What I liked about this hard drive is that it is stackable so that in a small office youcould easily install several of these without taking up a ton of desk space.
It is PC and MAC compatible and there is a USB 2.0 and eSATA interface with 1TB-2TB capacities.
