Beat the Street: Airline Traders Lead
The leaders in the third week of the TheStreet.com'sBeat the Street contest, rode short sales to the top of the leaderboard. Today's leader, JohnnyC, boasted an all-short portfolio that included Northwest (NWA) , Continental (CAL) - Get Report, United (UAUA) , US Airways (LCC) and Netflix (NFLX) - Get Report that spiked his portfolio value to $310,610, the first contestant in the three weeks to get over the $300,000 barrier.
Shorts, specifically of airline stocks, rewarded all the top five, as each portfolio is all short. Lateral and Hangtongjin, the second and third place contestants, also crossed $300,000 in portfolio value, reaching $305,164 and $301,659, respectively. Trackman, $286,307, and Tukaram, $285,877, round out the top five. In addition to airline stocks,

were successful shorts for the top five players.
Under the rules of the weekly contest, players were able swap out one stock between Tuesday evening and Wednesday's market open.
