3 Most Important Donald Trump Moments From Last Night's GOP Debate

Previous debates were full of zippy one-liners from Donald Trump, and maybe that's a good thing.

Perhaps Donald Trump is still feeling tired from hosting Saturday Night Live last week. Either way, his talking points lacked some of the punch he brought in previous debates. Which, if you are inclined to take presidential debates seriously, may be a good thing.

Here are his three best moments:

1. "We are a country that is being beaten on every front economically, militarily."

Trump used the end of American exceptionalism to explain why he can't be sympathetic to a $15 minimum wage rate. Earlier the day of the debate, protests erupted throughout the country from workers arguing for a higher minimum wage. While many people on both side of the aisle can express some sympathy to the plight of low-income workers, many businesses say that they could not afford to pay more without passing the costs onto consumers or finding themselves financially strapped.

"But, taxes too high, wages too high, we're not going to be able to compete against the world. I hate to say it, but we have to leave it the way it is," Trump said.

2. "All you have to do is go to Israel and say, 'how is your wall working?' Walls work."

Trump did not shy away from talking about why the United States needs stronger border controls. He has repeatedly said that a Trump presidency would result in a wall being built between the U.S. and Mexico. Even better, Trump would make sure that Mexico paid for it. His plan has come under criticism on all sides both as a policy measure and also whether or not such a plan would be feasible. Invoking Israel takes the conversation to a new level.

3. "I built unbelievable companies worth billions and billions of dollars. I don't have to hear from this man. Believe me. I don't have to hear from him."

This was Trump's response to John Kasich after the Ohio governor said that shipping immigrants back to their native country just wasn't feasible. Not wanting to hear more criticism, Trump instead offered to let Jeb Bush speak. A very kind gesture, considering at that point the former governor of Florida did not have more that three uninterrupted minutes to speak.
