200,000 people signed up for new health insurance plans through Cigna over the past three months. The Connecticut-based insurer collected more than $8.7 billion from members, much better than what was expected. Profit in the third quarter came in at $1.95 a share, also above expectations. The insurer's customer base for both commercial and government medical plans expanded. More than 14.3 million people now have Cigna insurance. CEO David Cordani said the results show that Cigna's focus on personalized service and quality clinical outcomes had paid off. Looking ahead, Cigna wants to get more medical plan sign ups.
