Gas Drops, Brazilians Buy Chiquita & Twitter Teams Up With IBM
The average price per gallon of gas in the U.S. is $3.04, according to AAA. That's a drop of $.06 per gallon over last week and a 10% drop since Labor Day. If prices hold, the drop will lead to $50 billion in additional fuel savings over the course of the year. Meanwhile, Chiquita Brands International accepted a $1.3 billion takeover offer from Brazil's Cutrale and Safra Groups on Monday, three days after shareholders of the produce distributor rejected its planned merger with Ireland's Fyffes plc. Finally, Twitter and IBM are getting together. IBM said this week it plans to offer Twitter data as part of select cloud-based services, including IBM Watson Analytics.
