After donating more than $100 million to the Republican party, one might think that Las Vegas Sands CEO Sheldon Adelson would have a good chance of influencing Congress, but the issue Adelson wants the most -- a ban on online gambling, is facing opposition. Earlier this year, bills were introduced in Congress that were designed to rewrite parts of the 1961 Wire Act to limit betting operations over the Internet. Although the bills were sponsored by Republicans like Senator Lindsey Graham, the opposition doesn't just come from Democrats. Former Republican Congressman Ron Paul issued an op-ed earlier this week calling a ban on Internet gambling 'a winner for Sheldon Adelson, a losing bet for the rest of us.'
