New Target CEO Brian Cornell is a brand steward and knows what levers to pull to improve the company, says Russell Reynolds Associates head of global consumer sector practice Bobbie Lenga. Lenga tells TheStreet's Joe Deaux that Cornell wants to be innovative to change the face of Target back to the sheik brand consumers used to view it as. Lenga also steps back and looks at retail as a whole and argues that CEO succession is becoming more of a priority for boardrooms. The changing landscape is also forcing companies to think outside the box for what they want from new executives, who may not have spent their lifetimes in retail.
