General Electric's cash offer to Alstom for its energy division looks to be the preferable deal for the French company. Germany's Siemens has made a rival bid, but it involves trading trains for the energy assets. Paul Whitfield, The Deal's Paris correspondent, believes Alstom prefers the simplicity of the GE deal. He also notes that even though the French government is inserting itself into the dialogue, they really have no say in the matter.
