The Windows 7 review is in, and critics like it. The end is near for our beloved Windows XP. Microsoft(MSFT Quote), which makes the operating system 90% of us use, has gotten serious about ending our XP addiction. In fact, the Redmond, Wash.-based company is betting the digital farm that small businesses will pick Windows 7over Apple's(AAPL Quote) OS X and the open-source system Linux sold by companies such as Red Hat(RHT Quote).

Compared with its predecessors, Windows 7 offers better search tools, easier networking, improved security and more mobile support. The program's performance is a huge leap from Microsoft's earlier disaster, the Vista system.

Upgrading to Windows 7costs $119, but I recommend the professional version for $199, which offers better customer support. Amazon.com(AMZN Quote) is taking early orders after nearly a year of hype.
