'Mad Money' Spotlight: Marvell and Qualcomm

On last night's "Mad Money," Jim Cramer touched on chipmakers, one of his favorite sectors, and mentioned two players he feels has upside: Marvell Technologies(MRVL Quote)and Qualcomm(QCOM Quote). News from both camps in recent weeks may have investors feeling the same way.

Yesterday, Marvell shares soared 13% on heavy volume after an analyst from JMP Securities upgraded his recommendation from market underperform to market outperform. News of Texas Instrument's(TXN Quote) raised forecasts only helped drag other chipmakers into positive territory too. Since the beginning of the year, Marvell's stock is up 86%. Today, shares were off 12 cents to $12.72 by early afternoon.

Marvell's big move yesterday also came on the same day that the company announced a class-action settlement. The company agreed to pay $72 million to settle a lawsuit related to stock-options backdating allegations. The lawsuit has been hanging over the company since the class-action was filed in August 2007 and the settlement still awaits final approval from the federal district court in California. ...
