Allegheny Energy Says Va. OK'd 6 Percent Rate Hike

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Allegheny Energy Inc. says Virginia has approved an interim rate increase for customers of its Potomac Edison Co. subsidiary.

Greensburg, Pa.-based Allegheny said Wednesday the average residential bill in Virginia will increase $5.47, or 6 percent, to approximately $96 a month July 1.

Allegheny says it needs the increase to pay for power it has purchased for Virginia customers. ...
