Widely held health care-related stocks were mostly up Wednesday amid a rally in the broader market.
Eli Lilly(LLY Quote) shares rose 1.2% to $32.34 Wednesday afternoon after the company, along with Daiichi Sankyo, launched blood-thinner Efient in the U.K. Efient, or prasugrel, was approved in February by European officials to help prevent blood clots in heart patients with stents. It will compete with Plavix, sold by Bristol-Myers Squibb(BMY Quote) and Sanofi-Aventis (SNY Quote). Bristol shares rose 1.6% to $20.41. Sanofi-Aventis shares rose 0.5% to $27.71.
Also on the plus side was Merck(MRK Quote), shares of which rose 1.4% to $26.76. ...
