The volatility never seems to end. After the sharp drop on Monday, stocks snapped back on Tuesday, closing up north of 3%.
Meanwhile, some U.S. mega-retailers are feeling the pinch of hesitant consumers. Sears Holding Corp. (SHLD Quote) posted a bigger-than-expected loss for the third quarter Tuesday. The suburban Chicago-based company lost $146 million, or $1.16 per share, during the three months ending Nov. 1. That figure compares with a profit of $4 million, or 3 cents per share, in the same period last year.
Likewise, GE (GE Quote), the diversified industrial, finance and media conglomerate, announced it is expecting its Q4 profits to be near the low end of its previous guidance. But the news wasn't as bad as expected and the stock rallied hard on the news. ...
