Small-cap stocks mainly slumped during Monday's trading, mostly lagging behind the downtrending major indices. The Russell 2000 fell 2% to 750.11, and the S&P Small-Cap 600 was down 2.3% to 389.42.
Analog integrated circuits maker Micrel (MCRL Quote) was among the winners, climbing 11% to $9.17. The San Jose, Calif., company announced it had entered into a multimillion-dollar contract to supply its solar cells to an unidentified solar company.
Meanwhile, shares of Amarin (AMRN Quote) leapt 35% to 40 cents after the London-based neuroscience research company announced completion of comprehensive data analysis for its phase III Huntington's disease program. The Food and Drug Administration indicated that one more phase III trial and confirming evidence from current data might be enough to enable Amarin to submit a new-drug application (NDA). ...
