Rumors of the Day: Apple(AAPL Quote) is 4.7% higher Wednesday afternoon, following news that the company sent out invitations for a Sept. 5 event that is expected to be some sort of iPod announcement.
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster believes Apple will introduce new iPod Nanos and a new sixth-generation iPod, which may more closely resemble the iPhone, ahead of the holiday season. "Specifically, we expect the sixth-generation iPod to be a wide-screen device with multi-touch technology," Munster said. "It may also have WiFi capability, and the capacity could be as high as 160GB." Munster also said he expects that the new iPods will be based on a modified version of Apple's OS X operating system.
