Technology stocks fell Thursday as investors continued to take their cues from earnings-related news.
The Knot(KNOT Quote) plunged 14% after the wedding-planning Web site posted first-quarter results that were below expectations. The company earned $1.6 million, or 5 cents a share, on revenue of $21 million. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected earnings of 8 cents a share on revenue of $23.4 million. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $1.7 million, or 7 cents a share, on revenue of $14.8 million. Shares were trading down $3.20 to $19.23.
Elsewhere, Systemax(SYX Quote) rose 6.1% after the computer distributor posted first-quarter results that pleased investors. The company earned $13.9 million, or 37 cents a share, on revenue of $676 million. Results included a one-time gain of 4 cents a share, which was related to a lawsuit settlement. During the year-earlier quarter, the company earned $17.6 million, or 48 cents a share, on revenue of $575 million. Last year's results included a one-time gain of 12 cents a share, which related to the sale of a warehouse facility. Shares were trading up 99 cents to $17.25. ...
