Christmas spirit was in short supply in New York on Friday, and stocks finished to the downside ahead of a long holiday weekend and the last trading week of 2006.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 78.03 points, or 0.63%, to 12,343.22, and the S&P 500 was off 7.54 points, or 0.53%, at 1410.76. The Nasdaq Composite fell 14.67 points, or 0.61%, to 2401.18.
