Resources Connection(RECN Quote) gained in after-hours trading Wednesday after the Costa Mesa, Calif.-based financial consulting company posted a boost in first-quarter revenue. The company posted earnings of $11 million, or 22 cents a share, compared with $15.1 million, or 29 cents a share, a year ago. Excluding items, the company earned $15.1 million, or 30 cents a share. Revenue increased 10.4% to $165.1 million. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call were looking for the company to earn 24 cents a share and revenue of $165 million. Shares were trading up $1.06, or 4.46%, to $24.81.

Exelixis(EXEL Quote) retreated after the South San Francisco-based biotech said it is offering to sell 9 million shares of its common stock in an underwritten public offering. The company said it also intends to grant the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 1.4 million shares of common stock to cover overallotments. All of the shares in the offering are to be sold by Exelixis. Goldman Sachs is the sole manager of the offering. Shares were trading down 55 cents, or 6.1%, to $8.50.

Nabi Biopharmaceuticals(NABI Quote) advanced after the Boca Raton, Fla.-based company said it had retained Banc of America Securities to help it explore a full range of strategic options, including the possible sale of the company.

Nabi has been forced to change its strategy since November, when a late-stage clinical trial failed to meet its goal for a vaccine against dangerous bacteria. The company is conducting further research on the vaccine. "The board continues to believe that the company's current strategy will build shareholder value," Nabi said in a prepared statement. "However, the board is also sensitive to the interests of shareholders." Shares were climbing 39 cents, or 7%, to $5.99....
