Goldman Sachs Conference: TI, Microsoft Give Back Gains

SAN FRANCISCO -- Buy before and sell after. That appears to be one strategy investors are taking with companies presenting at the Goldman Sachs Technology Investment Symposium. Both Texas Instruments (TXN) and Microsoft (MSFT) have given back gains made this morning following appearances at the conference.

Texas Instruments was 11/16 higher at 87 5/8, but off its high of 91 1/4 made around 10:35 a.m. EST. TI began its presentation around 10 a.m. Microsoft gave a breakfast presentation and reached a high of 164 3/8 this morning, but recently was down 1 at 159. Both stocks have been bounced around by choppy market conditions as a whole and some of the slippage could be due to nervousness in the high-tech sector as well.

Shares of Gateway 2000 (GTW) are flourishing following a well-received presentation. Gateway is up 2 3/8 at 74.

Inktomi on Goldman Docket

Still to come at the conference this afternoon are Inktomi (INKT), which already has announced today that it had formed a strategic alliance with British Telecom (BT) to provide Internet content through BT hosting facilities. Inktomi message boards are touting the upcoming appearance at the conference on speculation that the company will provide details of a shopping engine.
