Walgreen March Same-Store Sales Rose 11.5%

 

Walgreen(WAG Quote) said Tuesday that same-store sales increased 11.5% in March, while total sales for the month rose 17.4%.

The retail drugstore chain, which is based in Deerfield, Ill., posted total sales of $2.1 billion in March, up from $1.8 billion in the same month a year ago.

Pharmacy sales increased 21%, while comparable pharmacy sales rose 17.3%. For February, Walgreen reported that same-store sales rose 9.5% from the year-ago period.

As of March 31, Walgreen operated 3,374 drugstores in 43 states and Puerto Rico. Shares of Walgreen fell 64 cents, or 1.6%, to $40.04 in recent New York Stock Exchange trading.
