British Energy Establishes Wind Generation Venture in Canada

British Energy (BGY Quote) said its Canadian unit agreed to form a joint venture with Ontario Power Generation to develop a wind energy facility on Lake Huron near Kincardine, Ontario.

The venture, which will be owned equally by the two companies, will be called Huron Wind and is scheduled to have wind generators operating early next year. The facility will be located near the Bruce A and B nuclear generating facility on Lake Huron. British Energy doesn't know the total output expected from the facility, but said 10 megawatts will be installed at this point.

The American depositary shares of British Energy gained 70 cents, or 4.4%, to $16.80 in recent New York Stock Exchange trading.
