NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Merck & Co. (MRK - Get Report) won FDA approval today to bring to market the first in a new line of cancer fighting treatments that use patients' own immune systems against the disease, Bloomberg reports.
The agency cleared Keytruda, known chemically as pembrolizumab, to treat advanced melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, according to an FDA statement.
Shares of Merck are down -0.58% to $60.13.
