Advanced Fibre Communications(AFCI Quote - Cramer on AFCI - Stock Picks) said Tuesday that it beat Wall Street's earnings estimates for the fourth quarter.
The broadband access products maker said it earned $20.2 million, or 24 cents a diluted share, in the quarter, excluding a $10.1 million payment from
Marconi Communications. The company earned $7.6 million, or 9 cents a share, in the year-ago period, before a gain. Thirteen analysts polled by
First Call/Thomson Financial were calling for the company to earn 16 cents in the period.
Revenue for Advanced Fibre, which is based in Petaluma, Calif., rose to $116.1 million, up 40% from $82.8 million in the equivalent period last year.
"Although the winter months are typically a time for slower deployment of outside plant products such as ours, and certain carriers have slowed spending and are conserving capital, we look forward to growth in 2001," the company said in a press release.
Shares of Advanced Fibre closed regular
Nasdaq trading at $20.56, but rose to $21.69 in recent after-hours
