IBM to Make Equity Investment in MDS Proteomics

IBM (IBM Quote) plans to make an equity investment in MDS Proteomics and will supply the company with hardware, software and services as part of a drug development and research collaboration.

MDS Proteomics, a unit of MDS (MDZ Quote), is a research company focused on the study of protein location, interaction, structure and function. The companies also plan to create a public research database of protein analysis that will be accessible through the Internet.

Shares of IBM gained $1.57, or 1.4%, to $116.55 in recent New York Stock Exchange trading. MDS rose 80 cents, or 4.8%, to $17.35.
