The award is given to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of the commodity trading and risk management industry. Only 20 individuals have received the Lifetime Achievement Award, marking 20 years since Energy Risk was launched back in 1994.

In his role as global director of markets reporting, Montepeque oversees a team responsible for Platts' global price discovery and assessments processes and methodologies. Montepeque has more than 30 years of experience in the oil industry and commodity pricing, and, prior to his current position, he headed Platts'
Asia editorial operations and managed several editorial commodity sectors including crude oil and petrochemicals. Montepeque began his career working for the energy consulting firm Petroleum Industry Research Associates before joining Petroleos de
Venezuela working as a petroleum economist. He holds a master's degree in economics from
Hunter College in
New York City.
