Juno Hits 4-Million-Subscriber Mark

Internet access provider Juno (JWEB Quote) said Monday its subscriber base hit 4 million in December, up from 3.7 million in September.

The firm, which offers both free and paid services, said its billable subscriber base increased by 92,000 to 842,000 during the fourth quarter, representing more than four times the growth from the previous quarter.

Subscribers who moved from the company's free basic service to its billable premium services accounted for most of Juno's growth. "We believe the free-to-billable conversion strategyrepresents a model for the many Internet companies now seeking to diversify their revenue streams," said Charles Ardai, Juno's president.

At midday, Juno shares had gained 75 cents, or 23.53%, to $3.31 in Nasdaq trading.
