Google Glass: Would You Pay $1,500 For It?

This story has been updated from 9:59 am EST with additional information in the third and eighth paragraphs.

NEW YORK (TheStreet) - Would you pay $1,500 for Google Glass?

Google (GOOG) began selling Google Glass, its much-anticipated wearable tech device, at 9 am EST/6 am Pacific on Tuesday. If you want one, you're going to have to chalk up $1,500 plus taxes. The offer is good only for April 15 and only online. Google Glass is currently only available in the U.S.

When asked why it would only be sold in the U.S., prompting calls for "geographical discrimination," the company said that there were "regulatory [and] logistical limitations right now" for international sales. In another Tweet, Google said it hopes to make Glass more widely available "someday."

Google Glass devices come with a cable and charger; mono earbud, pouch and choice of shade or frame, according to the Google Glass Web site.

The company made the announcement last week that it would be selling a limited amount on April 15.

Google Glass has been criticized as an out-of-touch, too expensive device for mainstream consumers. Google said it is expanding and experimenting with its Glass product as it embarks on mainstream marketing efforts. Consumers, at least 18 years of age, need only to sign up for its Explorer program. "To discover new places, sometimes we need to leave the map behind. And that's what Glass Explorers do. They are the first to make, to tinker, to create, to shape, and to share through Glass," the company said in a blog post.

According to Twitter, regular consumers are finding far better things to do with $1,500.

Perhaps the best Tweet of the day regarding Google Glass:

@WrightsCS Thanks for the feedback, Aaron. We hear you.
