FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif.,
April 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by Mr.
Zafar Brooks, executive director, Hyundai Hope On Wheels:
"As executive director of
Hyundai Hope On Wheels, I'm delighted that President
Barack Obama used the power of the pen yesterday to sign into law the
Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act, named in honor of the fearless 10-year-old
Virginia girl who died in
October 2013 of brain cancer.
On behalf of the more than 15,000 children who will be diagnosed with a form of cancer this year and the families who support them, I applaud the President and both Chambers of the United States Congress for showing leadership and directing
$126 million for pediatric medical research.
For more than 16 years, and with the help of a dedicated group of doctors, parents and Hyundai dealers, Hope On Wheels has worked to help fund research that would eradicate pediatric cancer. With generous support from Hyundai Motor America, the Foundation has donated an unprecedented
$86 million to hospitals and health care systems across the nation, specifically targeting pediatric cancer research. Since 1998, we've attracted the support of thousands of volunteers, local, state and national political leaders and, of course, doctors dedicated to finding a cure for cancer and supporting the families impacted by it.
Each year during September, the Hope On Wheels Foundation escorts more than 100 children, families, doctors and thought leaders to
Washington, DC to exchange ideas, celebrate the progress and remind political leaders there's more work yet to be done. We encourage everyone to join us in our cause."
