MakerBot, The Golden State Warriors And America Makes Team Up To Bring 3D Printing To Oakland High School

MakerBot:

WHO:

Oakland High School is scoring a slam-dunk for its students with the donation of a MakerBot® Replicator® 2 Desktop 3D Printer from MakerBot and the Golden State Warriors and the 3D printing and U.S.-based manufacturing initiative America Makes.

Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot, the global leader in desktop 3D printing, will be at Oakland High School with Warriors’ forward Harrison Barnes and Ralph Resnick, executive director and America Makes founding director, on Monday, March 10, 2014, to present Oakland High School their MakerBot Replicator 2.

The donation is part of the MakerBot Academy program, which is supported by America Makes and the White House and has the goal of putting a MakerBot Replicator Desktop 3D Printer in every school in America. To help accomplish this lofty objective, corporations and individuals like the Golden State Warriors’ Harrison Barnes, are getting involved and showing their support for implementing cutting edge technology like 3D printers in schools. Having a MakerBot Replicator Desktop 3D Printer in U.S. schools helps empower the next generation to become makers, creators, future engineers, architects and entrepreneurs that can lead the Next Industrial Revolution. MakerBot in conjunction with America Makes and the Golden State Warriors, see this program expanding to more communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and in America where community and education-minded programs like this can be implemented with schools.

WHAT:

In a few short months, the MakerBot Academy initiative has helped teachers in more than 1,000 public schools throughout the U.S. obtain a MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer, reaching approximately 300,000+ students and empowering them with 3D printing.

“As a former teacher, I believe strongly in creating a new model for innovation. A MakerBot is a manufacturing education in a box,” said Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “We need to encourage our teachers and our youth to think differently about manufacturing and innovation. When you have a MakerBot Desktop 3D Printer, you see the world differently. Instead of waiting for someone to create a product for you, you can create your own. It changes the whole paradigm of how our children will see innovation and manufacturing in America.”

The MakerBot Academy program is available to other public school teachers in the U.S. via DonorsChoose.org. To learn more about MakerBot Academy, visit makerbot.com/academy.
