'House of Cards' Is Back!

Updated from 8:29 a.m. to include thoughts from TheStreet's Jim Cramer in the xx paragraph.

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- It's back.

The long-awaited second season of House of Cards is ready on Netflix (NFLX) for all your binge-watching needs. The show officially returned to Netflix at 3 a.m. EST on Friday, despite cries on social media for Netflix to release the season a day early because of enormous pent-up demand.

It was announced in December that House of Cards, which stars Kevin Spacey as House Majority Whip Francis Underwood (spoiler: He's now soon-to-be vice president), Robin Wright and Claire Underwood, would return in February. Since that time, the fervor surrounding both Netflix, and the show, have been at a fever pitch.

The first season, which ran 13 episodes, was nominated for four Golden Globe awards, with Wright winning for Best Actress - Television Series Drama. That award was the first major acting award for an online-only Web television series, vindicating Netflix's decision to spend exceptional amounts of money on original content.

Appearing on CNBC, TheStreet's Jim Cramer said he thought House of Cards could add additional subscribers to sign up to Netflix, with the bad weather benefiting Netflix.

During the third quarter, Netflix said it would double its investment in original content, including Cards, Orange is the New Black, and various other projects, as it seeks to become more like HBO, which is owned by Time Warner (TWX).

"In 2014, we expect to double our investment in original content (though still representing less than 10%  of our overall global content expense)," the company wrote in a letter to shareholders. "Coming to Netflix next year will be second seasons of House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Derek and Hemlock Grove as well as the just announced project from Todd and Glenn Kessler and Daniel Zelman, the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated creators of  Damages.  We'll also roll out a number of new animated series from DreamWorks Animation. Expect more news on additional new original projects in the months to come."

So far, reviews for the second season of House of Cards are exceptional, with The Daily Beast calling it "more bingeworthy than the first."

With it being Valentine's Day weekend, and you're likely to be snowed in depending upon where you live in the United States, it's likely this is a House of Cards kind of weekend. "Welcome back," Underwood said at the end of the first episode of the second season.

Thanks, Francis. I along, with millions of others, can't wait to see what's next.
