today announced that leading research firm Gartner, Inc. has placed McAfee in the leaders quadrant in its “Magic Quadrant for Intrusion Prevention Systems” as published on December 16, 2013. This marks the seventh consecutive time that McAfee was named a leader in this quadrant. Gartner’s research examined leading vendors who offer solutions in the intrusion prevention systems (IPS) marketplace.
According to the report, “leaders demonstrate balanced progress and effort in all execution and vision categories. Their actions raise the competitive bar for all products in the market, and they can change the course of the industry. To remain leaders, vendors must demonstrate a track record of delivering successfully in enterprise IPS deployments, and in winning competitive assessments. Leaders produce products that embody NGIPS (Next Generation IPS) capabilities, provide high signature quality and low latency, innovate with or ahead of customer challenges (such as providing associated ATA (Advanced Targeted Attack) technologies to make enriched IPS intelligence) and have a range of models. Leaders continually win selections and are consistently visible on enterprise shortlists. However, a leading vendor is not a default choice for every buyer, and clients should not assume that they must buy only from vendors in the Leaders quadrant.”
“We believe our continued commitment to network security is validated once again by Gartner and the seventh consecutive year that McAfee IPS has been positioned in the leaders quadrant,” said Pat Calhoun, senior vice president and general manager of Network Security at McAfee. “To defend against today’s stealthy attacks, IPS solutions need to go well beyond traditional signature-driven defenses. Only those integrating signature-less engines, coupled with an efficient signature core, will adequately protect against zero-day attacks, bots and other targeted and persistent threats.”
